When evaluating companies that claim an expertise in writing resumes for executives, it pays to start at the top. That is, the top of the company in question. Who runs the firm? What qualifications does he or she bring to the table? Does the CEO foster a corporate culture that prioritizes quality and customer service?

This review of Distinctive Documents (Distinctive Career Services, LLC) is thereby off to a roaring start. CEO Michelle Dumas is the real deal; top-tier certifications, multiple award winner in national competitions, published author, and a sought-after contributor to more than 12 top-selling resume books.

What I Liked (the Pros)
Writers are supremely qualified and talented. Each and every writer has at least one industry certification and many hold more than that. These are certifications such as Nationally Certified Resume Writer (NCRW), Certified Professional Resume Writer (CPRW), and Master Resume Writer (MRW). And while each writer has years of experience in resume writing, they also have practical, real-world experience in fields as recruiting, human resources, and counseling.
The supervision is real. The company CEO is very much hands-on. While you'll be working directly with your writer, behind the scenes Michelle Dumas oversees and supervises all projects -- including yours; consulting with your writer and advising on content and design strategies.
Telephone consultation. Your project includes up to an hour of telephone time with your writer.
Satisfaction is guaranteed. Even if that means pairing you with another writer and rewriting the resume at no charge.
Samples speak volumes. The samples of executive resumes, available on the website, showcase talents far above those found with more typical writing services.

What I Didn't Like (the Cons)

Don't expect a rush service here. A first draft will generally be ready within 10 days of submitting all necessary information. The company offers no provision for more urgent needs.

Note: This is less a criticism of the company and more of a heads-up for prospective clients. If you need a resume yesterday, you'll need to look elsewhere.
